I drove 6 miles with 1 mile showing on the NJ turnpike last week. I too like living dangerously.

I think I got to 5 once...and when your car gets 40+ mpg and its telling you have 5 miles left...you know you aint got much fuel in there.

I got my Mustang down to less than 5 once and was surprised when the dash lights turned red. It was pretty effective.

I filled up a little under 11 gallons. I know my tank holds more than 12. So in reality I had at least another 40 miles

I've run out of gas a couple times in my truck. You can get out and the gauge says 1/4 tank left. Get back in and it's on E. When it's on E it's really empty. Never got stranded but did have to push. Got a push from another truck once. One time it died as I rolled into the station and I coasted.

It got down to 8 because it calculates based on current economy over time and I kept getting caught at red lights going uphill. Coasted downhill and got it back up to 11

I would not be surprised by that at all. After all, these are the people that took 6 months to repave 40ish miles of empty 3 lane highway. Where I used to live in MD, they did 8 miles in 2 weeks with traffic, and it was a 4 lane highway. and they only worked at night.
